All That's Mine

Single?
Yes, released as the B-Side along with "Heaven" on January 31, 2013

"All That's Mine" is the B-Side of the "Heaven" single and is the fourth track on the Delta Machine deluxe edition bonus disc.

Lyrics

I know it's hard to reach you
I know it's hard to breathe
I know it's hard to be you sometimes
I can't imagine what that means
This must be someone else's story
I can't follow what you've planned
How can this be about me
Am I supposed to understand
Like a ship on the ocean
Heading out to sea
You can hardly see it now
It's a lot like you
Lost like me
You're still looking for redemption
Still can't find a trace
If there is nothing after
There'll be no saving grace
I'm giving you control now
I need some kind of sign
Come take away this sorrow now
I gave you all that's mine
Like a ship on the ocean
Heading out to sea
You can hardly see it now
It's a lot like you
Like a ship on the ocean
Heading out to sea
You can hardly see it now
It's a lot like you
Lost like me

My Take

This song, like the rest of the songs on this bonus disc, feels like a spiritual successor to Black Celebration, which I find quite interesting given that these are all from the Delta Machine era. Part of it is due to Dave's vocals having a strong reverb effect here, making him sound dark and commanding- so basically, like "Depeche Mode Dave" is expected to sound. I'm kind of intrigued by the synth sounds, too, as they very much remind me of video game music, of all things. And by the way, if you know me, you'll know that I am a passionate retro video game music lover, particularly that from the Mega Man series. And I have to say this tune is very Mega-Man-like. So, was that a weird tangent or what? All that aside, the lyrics are typical of Dave's Soulsavers songwriting style, exploring the themes of being lost spiritually or knowing and sympathizing with someone who is. Dave must've had a lot of inspiration during this time in the early 2010s because combined with his material for The Light the Dead See and Delta Machine, that's a total of 16 tracks that feature lyrics written by him, not counting "La Ribera" or "Point Sur Pt. 1" from the Soulsavers album. This could also very well mean that there are a lot more songs penned by him that have yet to see the light of day!
