"Tonight" is the twelfth track on The Light the Dead See.

Lyrics

When you're looking for salvation
Better take some time to get your story straight
Are you sure you're ready for forgiveness
You might have left it kind of late
Tonight
No it's never too late
Tonight
No it's never too late
When you're looking for salvation
In another person's life
You better get yourself a witness
You might consider a wife
Tonight, tonight
So listen to what I'm saying
Don't be listening to their fear
You gotta jump into the water sometimes
You gotta risk it all, my dear, my dear
Seems I might be heading for some trouble
You keep listening to their lies
I know you have that nagging sickness sometimes
We can change it all tonight
Tonight, tonight

Dave's Take

Dave and Rich Machin talk about this song at the 4:51 mark.

My Take

The song begins with another short harmonica solo by Dave before we get to hear him impart more sage advice. This is sort of done on a similar vein as in the previous song, this time offering a wise word or two for someone looking for redemption, again from someone who has probably gone looking for it, himself, and who has probably seen and done it all. The music in this one is much more upbeat, though, and rockier, again sounding very vintage as these Soulsavers grooves tend to sound, which I absolutely love. Dave's vocals here are top-notch, too, as they are so dynamic, weaving back and forth between loud and direct and soft and tender. I must also admit that I turn into a little puddle when Dave sings "my dear" in that very delicate tone, like a loving father soothing a young child. It's quite a satisfying end to a great album.
